Captain Ralph S. Parr

335th FIS, 4th FIW, FEAF
Kimpo AB, South Korea,
July 1953

At the outbreak of the Korean War, Parr was assigned to the 7th Fighter Squadron, 49th Fighter Group, Far East Air Force and flew 165 combat missions in the F-80.  In 1951, he was reassigned to George AFB, California where he helped develop air-to-air fighter tactics.  Returning to South Korea, he joined the 335th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, 4th Fighter Interceptor Wing for the final two months of the Korean War.

On June 7, 1953, he downed two MiG-15s in MiG Alley.  Three days later near Uiju, he shot down another MiG.  On June 18, he downed two more MiGs becoming the Air Force's 33rd ace of the Korean War.  Credited with four more MiGs in the next 24 days, he ended his scoring on July 27th, 1953, with the last enemy aircraft destroyed in the Korean War.

He named his aircraft "Barb/Vent de la Morte."  Barb was the name of his former spouse and Vent de la Morte was a French phrase that loosely translated meant "Death Wind!"
